Who is behind this?
Hamptons Homestead, Roots & Wisdom, and the Hamptons Homestead newsletter are all created and managed by Liz Sanicola, based in East Quogue, NY. There are no advertising partners, outside investors, or third-party data brokers involved in any of these properties. What is collected
Log files: Like most websites, this site automatically records basic technical information when you visit — including your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, and the date and time of your visit. This data is used only to understand how the site is being used and to keep it running well. It is not linked to your personal identity.
Cookies: This site uses cookies to remember your preferences and improve your experience. You can disable cookies through your browser settings at any time, though some parts of the site may not function as expected if you do.
Contact form: If you reach out through the contact form on this site, your name and email address are collected so I can respond to you. That information is not added to any mailing list or shared with anyone else without your explicit consent.
What is NOT collected or done

Third-party services
This site is built on WordPress and hosted through a third-party web host. Standard hosting and platform security practices apply. No other third-party data services are active on this site.
Part Two — Newsletter & Email

The Hamptons Homestead newsletter is published through Substack, a third-party newsletter platform. Subscribing to the newsletter is always optional and separate from any other account or membership.
How newsletter subscriptions work
Substack opt-in: If you choose to subscribe to the Hamptons Homestead newsletter, you will be asked to provide your email address directly through Substack’s signup flow. This is a separate, explicit opt-in — subscribing to the newsletter is never automatic or assumed.
From Roots & Wisdom: When you create a Roots & Wisdom account, you may be offered the option to also subscribe to the Hamptons Homestead newsletter. This is always a separate, clearly labeled choice — not a default. If you do not opt in, your email address is used only for your Roots & Wisdom account and is never passed to Substack.
From the Hamptons Homestead website: If a newsletter signup form appears on the website, submitting your email address there constitutes your opt-in to receive the newsletter. Your email will be passed to Substack to manage your subscription.
What Substack receives
When you subscribe to the newsletter through any of the above paths, your email address is passed to Substack to manage your subscription. Substack may also collect additional data as part of their platform — including open rates and click data — under their own privacy policy, available at substack.com/privacy.
What the newsletter contains
The Hamptons Homestead newsletter is a content-first publication. It covers herbal practice, seasonal living, making, and learning. It is never used to sell your data, target you with third-party advertising, or share your information with sponsors or partners.
Unsubscribing
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or by managing your subscription directly through Substack. Unsubscribing from the newsletter does not affect your Roots & Wisdom membership or any other account.
Part Three — Roots & Wisdom App

Roots & Wisdom is a membership-based herbal practice app — a living materia medica designed for herbalists and students. Because it involves account creation and payment, this section covers data handling in more detail.
What is collected
Account information: When you create an account, your name and email address are collected. This is used to identify your account and communicate with you about your membership.
Payment information: Membership payments are processed securely through Stripe. I never see, store, or have access to your card number or billing details. Stripe handles all payment data under their own privacy policy, available at stripe.com/privacy.
App content: Any notes, herb entries, journal entries, practice logs, or community contributions you create within the app are stored and associated with your account. This content belongs to you.
Usage data: Basic usage information — such as which features are used most — may be collected to help improve the app experience. This data is never linked to your identity or shared externally.
How your data is used
Your information is used for one purpose: to provide and improve your experience within Roots & Wisdom. Specifically:
• Your account information is used to manage your membership and communicate with you.
• Your app content is stored so you can access it across devices and sessions.
• Usage patterns help identify what is working and what needs improvement.
Your data is never sold, never shared with third parties for marketing, and never used for advertising of any kind.
Newsletter opt-in
When creating a Roots & Wisdom account, you may be offered the option to subscribe to the Hamptons Homestead newsletter on Substack. This is always a separate, clearly labeled choice. If you opt in, your email address is passed to Substack for that purpose only. If you do not opt in, your email address stays within Roots & Wisdom and is never shared with Substack or any other platform.
Community content
Roots & Wisdom includes a community forum and a crowdsourced herb database. Content you contribute to these spaces — forum posts, suggested herb edits, or shared observations — is visible to other members of the community and reviewed by app administrators as part of the moderation process.
Please be mindful of this when contributing. Do not share personally sensitive information in public community spaces.
Data storage and hosting
The Roots & Wisdom app is hosted on Base44 (base44.app). Your account data and app content are stored on their platform under their infrastructure security practices. Payment data is stored and managed entirely by Stripe.
Your rights
You have the right to:
• Access the personal data held about you
• Request a copy of your data
• Request correction of any inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Cancel your membership at any time with no penalty or friction
• Opt out of the newsletter at any time without affecting your membership
To exercise any of these rights, email liz@hamptonshomestead.com. Account deletion requests are completed within 30 days.
Membership cancellation
You can cancel your Roots & Wisdom membership at any time through your account settings or by emailing liz@hamptonshomestead.com. Cancellation stops future billing. Content you have created within the app remains accessible until your billing period ends, after which your account is deactivated. If you also request account deletion, your data is removed within 30 days of that request.
Part Four — General
Children’s privacy
None of these platforms — Hamptons Homestead, Roots & Wisdom, or the newsletter — are directed at children under the age of 13. No information is knowingly collected from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through any of these platforms, please contact me at liz@hamptonshomestead.com and I will remove it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes in any meaningful way, the update will be posted here with a revised date at the top. I will not make changes that reduce your privacy protections without clear notice.
